WIP's, Flying Geese, SAL's, Purchases from Canadian Needle Nana

This is a banner year for cones on the fir trees including the balsams. There is a saying that this is a sign of a harsh winter to come and nature produces more to help the animals survive. A nice notion and one scientists debunk; however the last time we had this many cones, it was a very harsh winter with a lot of freezing rain. I took note.

Pretty patterns and colours up close when they first emerge.

It's good to know almost 83% of our population here in Ottawa are fully vaccinated (almost 90% with one dose ...

Rule #6, Bargains, Delicious Macaroni, Flying Geese, Courthouse Steps from Canadian Needle Nana

Rule #6 Walk Tall.  In keeping with the walking...One of my aims during my year leading up to 70 was to be as fit as I could be. And part of that was improving my posture.  With decades of bending over childrens' heads and desks and a needle or book etc., well let's just say,  I was not happy with my posture. And I have a fear of developing a hump on my back.

So I made a conscious effort all of last year to improve  it.  I read a little about it and also watched YouTube videos ...

Links, Free Patterns, Sawtooth Stars, Delicious Black Forest Trifle from Canadian Needle Nana

It was a week of horrid muggy weather setting a dew point record.  I had a vague idea of what that meant but looked it up anyway. Muggy is what a high dew point means; in our case, very muggy.  Dew point is not something I ever had to concern myself with in Newfoundland. But that broke overnight on Saturday and the temperature went down to 10C so very refreshing on the morning walk with the dogs.

The last of the lilies coincided with the hostas in bloom which is happy news for the bumblebees.

One of these days I ...

Mystery Solved, Tiny Stitching, Sawtooth Stars, Christmas Gift in May from Canadian Needle Nana

 Can you spy her?

She froze and I moved close enough to get this photo; I really didn't want to disturb her foraging.
That's a little snow on the ground on Monday early morning. I took this photo of the marsh frozen over.
The Canada Geese have moved in and several always settle in on the little pond for a short while.
I got my Christmas gift from Hubby recently. This book, The Bedside Book of Birds by Graeme Gibson. that I wanted had been out of print and it took this long to get a reprint copy ...

Quilting-Scrappy and Hexagons, Leaping Hares and What Do You Think??? from Canadian Needle Nana

It is remarkable how true this is.  Sections of our trails through the thicker wood and the chill just hangs in the air with a noticeable drop in temperature, while mere steps away the sun is beating down warming everything.
But overnight temperatures dipping well below zero are keeping our little pond a frozen expanse.
The wind has stopped...gosh that made walking so cold in spots.
Including the little wetland below to the left of it. This is a part of our walking trails that is now off limits as even though we have cleats on our boots, we ...

6 Satisfying Things on a Thursday from Canadian Needle Nana

I think we all know what we like and need to make our days feel productive and enjoyable. Here are six of the many things that make me feel satisfied and content with my life even in a continuing lockdown state.

1...Good Food

I love how my appetite is still strong for good food. I love finding a new way of cooking something that I've been eating all my life.  Take eggs for instance.  Lately I've been making scrambled eggs alongside rice and veggies with a little sauce of balsamic vinegar, dash of soya sauce and honey ...

Links, Minor Quilting Mystery, Snug Bunny from Canadian Needle Nana

February is moving along quickly and out rather quietly.
Have had more gently but steadily falling snow that's been going on for days and then some warmer temperatures. Those loosened the banks of icy snow on our roof and that came down in a series of crashes that sounded like thunder. Where it all landed on the front steps made for quite a shoveling job, one that required Hubby's help too. In fact, we couldn't lift it...wet snow is heavy, so wound up fashioning a new set of steps out of snow.
This old photo shows ...
